What is DNEP Free Accounting?

DNEP Free Accounting is a way for Detroit small business owners and entrepreneurs to get free consulting assistance in the areas of accounting and finance. See a list of sample services below. Consultation appointments are free, and business owners can schedule as many appointments as needed. Sign up to schedule an appointment through our Google calendar. Appointments can be conducted over Zoom (video), Google Hangouts (video), or over the phone. For questions contact [email protected]. We look forward to working together!

Services we offer: 

  • Quickbooks: Support setting up or using accounting software 
  • Analyses and Projections: Generate break-even analyses and start-up cost projections
  • Financial Statements: Create and explain common financial statements (Income statements, Balance sheets, Profit & Loss statements)
  • Payback Period Forecasts: Forecast payback periods for loans
  • Cost Structure Analysis: Analyze cost structure for products
  • Financial Data Review: Review financial data for accuracy

DNEP Free Accounting (formerly Free Accounting Fridays) is a collaboration between the University of Michigan’s Detroit Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Project (DNEP), an initiative to connect U-M faculty, students and staff with Detroit small business owners and entrepreneurs, and Business+Impact at the Ross School of Business. DNEP is an educational program of the Center on Finance, Law & Policy and led by a group of faculty from across the University.
